Ryan Pruess: Director of Sales - Southern WI 

Meet… Ryan Pruess! Ryan is the Director of Sales for Southern Wisconsin. He works out of our Milwaukee location. Get to know Ryan!!

What is your favorite part of working at Standard Electric? Why?

The people and the company culture. The people are great. It’s such a positive atmosphere, where everyone is ready to lend a hand or help you out when you need it. The culture and mission of providing fanatical customer service is evident throughout the organization, which aligns with my values as well.

Ten years ago, are you where you thought you would be now? How alike or different is it compared to what you imagined?

Maybe I’m unique in this way, but ten years ago, I didn’t have an exact position or role in mind of where I wanted to be or what I wanted to do. I’ve always focused on listening, being accountable, finding compromise, working hard, and being customer focused. I figured the rest would work itself out. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be at Standard Electric, working with an amazing group of fun and hard-working people that truly care for our customers.

Who inspires you? Why?

My parents. My father took a chance and started his own small business, worked extremely hard for decades, and always put his family first. My mother is extremely patient, a great listener, and is always open to different opinions. All of those are attributes and values I try to live my life by.

What is your personal philosophy? How has this guided you?

I try to stay curious. At work with co-workers, customers, or at home with my family, I aim to listen first, never stop learning, stay open minded, and assume the best. Although I’m not always perfect at this in practice, I’ve found when I start from there, my relationships at work and home thrive.

What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Why?

I love playing golf in spring/summer/fall and enjoy downhill skiing in the winter. Being able to share these activities with my kids has been awesome—gives us family activities to do together year-round.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?

One of the most memorable was my first Valentine’s date with my wife, Angela. I didn’t think ahead enough to make reservations, but we ended up getting a walk-in spot at Solera (a tapas restaurant in Minneapolis). We spent hours eating great food, enjoying each other’s company, and 17 years later, we are still happily married!

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I ran the Paris Marathon in 2021. Turns out it’s not easy—one and done for me!

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Take a family vacation to Hawaii. Everyone I know who has been seems to fall in love with it.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? Why?

Alexander Hamilton. My daughter introduced me to the Broadway show, which put me down a path of learning more about the founding fathers and the American Revolution. It would be fascinating to get a firsthand account of living through that time.

What is your favorite TV show or movie?

I was a big fan of Game of Thrones. Like many, I didn’t love the ending, but it was a fantastic ride.

What was the first concert you attended?

Matchbox 20 at the Wieder Center in Green Bay
