Standard Electric and Littelfuse are proud to re-announce the SB5000 Series, the newest Industrial Shock Blocks (ISB) to date. This series includes multiple options: Class A, C, D, and EGFPD. It offers complete flexibility, due to the ability of it being user programmable, and increases efficiency while offering a massive boost in safety due to reduced false positives and unnecessary trips. In addition, Class C and D models are personnel protection devices designed to meet UL943C requirements for special-purpose GFCIs, for industrial 208V, 480V and 600V applications.

Special-Purpose Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter (SPGFCI), Class C and Class D

Industrial Shock Block (ISB) is a personnel protection device designed to meet the requirements for special-purpose GFCIs defined by UL 943C. This standard outlines GFCI classes specifically designed for use in industrial facilities. Class C GFCIs are intended to be used on three-phase systems where the line-to-line voltage is 480 V or less with a trip level of 20 mA, while Class D GFCIs are intended to be used on 600 V systems. The Industrial Shock Block includes DFT harmonic filtering, an automatic self-test feature and is compliant to the UL 1998 Software in Programmable Components standard.

Food and Beverage Applications

In food and beverage processing, the combination of a wet environment, stainless steel equipment and conductive surfaces creates a situation where shock is more likely to occur. The NEC 210.8[B] code requires GFCI protection for any plug and cord equipment that is 208 V, 3-phase and 100 A or below. Plug-in equipment such as dryers, mixers, cutting equipment, and conveyers fall into this category and must be protected with a GFCI. The Littelfuse SB5000 will meet this code requirement for your facility, but the protection doesn’t stop at 208 V. The Littelfuse Shock Block SB5000 Series is also offered as Special Purpose GFCI protection all the way up to 600 V—personnel protection for all situations.

Shock Protection in Portable Electrical Equipment

In commercial garages, service bays, and maintenance shops, the frequent use of portable equipment creates situations where shock is more likely to occur. The NEC 210.8[B] code requires GFCI protection for any plug and cord equipment that is 208 V, 3-phase and 100 A or below. Plug-in equipment for use in welding, grinding, cutting, and drilling, fall into this category and must be protected with a GFCI. The Littelfuse SB5000 will meet this code requirement for your service shop, but the protection doesn’t stop at 208 V. The Littelfuse Shock Block is also offered as Special Purpose GFCI protection all the way up to 600 V—personnel protection for all situations.

  • UL 943 inverse time trip curve
  • Minimum trip time < 20 msec
  • Flexible configuration
  • Conformal coating
  • Auxiliary contact
  • Automatic self-test

But wait! There’s more! These shock blocks have a conformal coating (protecting against corrosion and moisture), an auxiliary contact that can alert your SCADA system, AND has an automatic self-test that tests itself constantly in case there is an internal failure. Last but not least, the Shock Block a two-stage ground monitor with Zener termination that meets UL 943C, CSA M421, NEC 590.6(B). Not much left to say for these Shock Blocks, except that they seriously ROCK!
