Meet… Bill Hirschinger!
What are your favorite indoor and outdoor activities?
Indoor – I like to cook. I especially like to prepare seafood, chili, jambalaya, and grilling.
Outdoor – I like hunting, fishing, boating, and hiking.
Who inspires you, and why?
My wife, kids and grandkids are my inspiration and reason to live. But in my early years, my mother and father. Mom for humor, dad for drive – it’s been a while without their guidance, mom has been gone since 1979 and dad since 1999. However, my Uncle Hank continues to inspire me with his attitude on life and his feedback to many of my questions (both business and personal – he’s my own Dalai Lama).
What’s the best meal you’ve ever had?
Sunday brunch at the Hotel del Coronado, just outside of San Diego, was impressive. It wasn’t cheap but I’ll never forget it!
What are you currently streaming on Netflix?
I like action movies. I have seen many war-related films and the 007 movies many times over. But I still like a good comedy and keep my wife happy with the occasional romance movie. But typically, you’ll find me on some historical documentary or educational Youtube video. I’ve been watching Banshee (on HBO Max) and just finished the first season – it has an interesting plot with lots of action.
What is the first concert you attended?
I would like to take some credit in launching Cheap Trick to stardom, thanks to spending many Sentry Foods grocery bagging dollars at Headliners in Madison, WI. I also attended many concerts at the Dane County Coliseum (now the Alliant Energy Center), including Head East, REO, Foreigner, Rush, Bruce Springsteen, and more. Back then $6.50 or $8.00 was typical - $10 was expensive!
What is your personal philosophy? How has it guided you?
Less Government – Free Enterprise. Thanks to my father who was a UW-Madison professor (yep) – following conservative paths through life…
What is the one thing, you can’t live without?
A well-equipped Kitchen because I love cooking for family and friends.
What is your favorite part of working at Standard Electric?

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’ve departed perfectly good airplanes before they’ve landed.
If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?
Making sure our family had any debts paid off – the problem is, you need to play the lottery to win…
