Meet… Rick Smith!
Rick Smith is the Customer Solutions Manager with Standard Electric Supply Co. He works out of Standard Electric’s Roselle, IL location. Get to know Rick!
What's your favorite indoor/outdoor activity? Why?
I recently purchased a One Wheel and riding it anywhere and everywhere is currently my favorite outdoor activity. I also like to golf, although admittedly I am not too good at it…yet!
Who inspires you? Why?
My biggest inspiration is my parents, without a doubt. The values they instilled in me of hard work, determination, honesty, and integrity have had an enormously positive impact on my life. Now that I have children of my own, my appreciation of the many sacrifices they made for me grows exponentially as time goes on.
What are you currently watching on Netflix/streaming service?
Better Call Saul and anything Star Wars related. After I finish Better Call Saul, I plan on rewatching all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad, and then El Camino.
What's the most beautiful place you've seen/traveled?
Dubrovnik, Croatia. The view of the Adriatic Sea is amazing and the city itself has a lot of historical significance to learn about.
What is your personal philosophy? How has this guided you?
My personal philosophy is that my attitude and mindset determine my future. The human mind is a massively powerful tool and if trained to consistently approach life with a positive mindset, positive results will follow.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid, I always dreamed of being a fighter jet pilot, like in the movie Top Gun.
What's something most people don't know about you?
I used to design funny T-Shirts for fun, and one of my designs was picked up by Spencer’s Gifts and carried in their stores.
What's the first concert you ever went to?
Blink 182 with Bad Religion and Fenix TX at Summerfest in 2000.
What's your favorite TV show - the one you're always watching on repeat?
The Office (both US and UK versions) and Seinfeld.
What is your favorite part of working at Standard Electric?
My favorite part of working at Standard Electric is the authentic family atmosphere. A lot of effort, over a long period of time, has been put into building the great culture we enjoy, and I wholeheartedly appreciate that. I am fortunate to have an amazing boss that is hands down the best I’ve ever had. The people I work with are not merely coworkers, but mentors, colleagues, and friends.
