WHAT IS YOUR ROLE AT STANDARD ELECTRIC, AND WHAT DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?
I am the Business Development Specialist for SE Automation (a Standard Electric Company) in the Southern region of Wisconsin. I specialize in Siemen’s control and circuit protection products.
HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN ENGINEERING?
I was always interested in math and science.
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THIS INDUSTRY?
I believed that the electrical marketplace was a stable industry. Industries will always require the components that I sell, even in down markets.
WHAT TRAITS DO YOU HAVE THAT HELP YOU IN YOUR ROLE?
I was fortunate to be associated with some of the best minds in the industry coming out of college. They taught and prepared me to be a controls and circuit protection specialist. Someone that engineers can come to for advice, selection and technical support.
WHEN YOU'RE WORKING WITH CLIENTS, HOW DO YOU HELP THEM IDENTIFY AND SOLVE THE PROBLEMS THEY'RE FACING?
It all starts with trust. Once you have that, then it is just a matter of discovering and assessing their needs. You never want to state that their present solution or product is suspect, but rather point out the benefits of your solution and let them make their own decision.
WHAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU'VE LEARNED WHILE WORKING AT STANDARD ELECTRIC?
That distributors are an important part of the sales process. Anyone that thinks otherwise is not using the value they provide.
WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I’m a do-it-yourself person. I enjoy watching and participating in most sports. I’ve been blessed with two children that have also been involved and kept me close to sports as a family unit. But mostly, it is my four grandchildren that keep me active and put a smile on my face.
WHAT IS AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU THAT MIGHT SURPRISE CO-WORKERS OR FRIENDS?
I was a diver on our high school swim team and at Michigan Technological University (DIV 2). I did hold records at the University in 1 and 3 meter events (I’m not sure if they were broken).
