Meet...Mike Smith
Mike Smith is the Director of Schneider Electric Business with Standard Electric Supply Co. He is located out of Standard Electric's Roselle location. We asked Mike 10 Questions to get to know him better!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE INDOOR/OUTDOOR ACTIVITY?
I like working around my house - especially in the spring. It is really gratifying to get sweaty and dirty and then look with some pride on a garden you planted or home improvement you completed. I also love playing basketball and soccer but the 61-year old body won’t cooperate.
TEN YEARS AGO, WHO DID YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE NOW?
I thought I would pretty much be the man I am today. That would be a faithful Catholic Christian man, a loving husband/father/friend, someone who enjoys life and is fulfilled at work.
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
My dad Dick Smith is a great inspiration. He was a great husband and dad. When he lost his job, he refused to file for unemployment because it was not a benefit we needed. He owned his own successful company. He was a natural athlete and loved to golf. He suffered from diabetes and eventually lost his sight. He suffered greatly the last year of his life but never complained. He was always more focused on his kids and grandkids were doing.
WHAT’S THE BEST MEAL YOU’VE EVER HAD?
I’m sure I’ve had tastier meals, but the best meal I’ve had is the tuna sandwich my wife and I shared the night our engagement. It was simple but special.
WHO IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE SUPERHERO?
I liked Batman but never cared for Robin. He seemed to be a suck up.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY?
Give your best, tell the truth, do the right thing
WHAT IS THE ONE THING, YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
That would be my faith in Jesus Christ. He is the reason I get up in the morning. He has helped me endure all the challenges in life, especially over the past year. He is also the reason why I do not have an irrational fear of death. On a more humanly note, it would really hard to live without the ability to read or walk.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF WORKING AT STANDARD ELECTRIC?
I love all the meetings! Seriously, I enjoy the work challenges, my fellow associates who are striving for company success, the caring for us as individuals and the work/life balance.
WHAT’S SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
Most people don’t know that I was an actor in high school playing the part of Ebenezer Scrooge and also had a leading role in our spring musical.

Pay off my kids student loans
