Drum Switch

Drum switches start, stop and reverse a motor by rotating a drum of contacts through positions, changing the winding connections rather than switching a coil circuit. Hoists and pumps need one when direction has to be changed by hand at the machine, when a worn drum no longer makes cleanly in every position, or when a small motor needs reversing without a contactor and control circuit behind it.
