Foot switches put a machine control at floor level, freeing both of an operator's hands for the work while keeping a start, jog or stop within reach. Operators work them when a press or shear has to be cycled while both hands hold the part, when a worn pedal has started making intermittent contact, or when a station needs a guarded pedal that cannot be triggered by accident.
